A calming ambience with natural materials and neutral palette

Subtle shades of natural colors blend discreetly into almost any interior. Simple, understated things are often the ones that you hold on to for the longest time. Maybe because they tell a story, remind you of that great trip you took. Or because the way they´re made resonates with you.

All natural. Environmental issues being a huge consideration. Packaging kept to an absolute minimum. Designed to neutralize. Because you have enough clutter in your life. These are our principles or philosophy, if you will. A philosophy of simplicity.

Why? Natural materials reduce waste. Conservation of resources is also taken into great consideration. We don´t adorn our products with packaging simply because we want you to see and feel it. Be able to picture in your mind how you would use it and thus create your own calming ambience.

Declutter and keep calm.

Part of rolla´s inspiration and story

Being  open to learning and being patient is a very important aspect of creating and designing. Learning by trial and error (truthfully, sometimes mostly error…) can take you places beyond your wildest imagination. Firmly believing that the world will conspire to get you what you want if you want it bad enough and love what you´re doing madly enough. Passion is a key ingredient.

We are grateful . It is very important to acknowledge what others do for you. Every day we take time to thank the people who have believed in us. Bought our products. Taken the effort to get in touch with us. Tell us how they use our products. What they like, dislike and really cheering us on. Moving forward and continually growing is an opportunity that has to be appreciated and honored every single day. That´s how good things come to life.

Individually our inspiration comes from a variety of things, people, places. But our driving force or energy boils down to the fact that every nation has its own story. A unique reason for being. We want to share Iceland´s story in a meaningful, authentic way that engages people. Stirs them. Moves and reminds them.

Choose to make this a great day!

P.S. We just finished a new product that we´re planning on photographing later this week or the beginning of next. We´re also working on our on-line-store for you guys :)

Ask rolla´s icelandic wool squad

How you care for your woolens can either really extend or seriously shorten their lifespan. It´s also very easy to care for your woolens. Once you know how to. You´re in luck – rolla´s wool squad is committed to sharing with you how we care for our woolens. We often get questions from our customers about how to care for their icelandic woolens. The best and most tried advice comes from our moms, grandmas and great grandmas. The following questions are among the most asked!

Q: Can I wash my rolla´s wool blanket in my washing machine?

The short answear is yes. But there are some good guidelines to follow before you put it into your washing machine and hit the start button! First of all you need to check if there is a wool cycle or gentle/hand wash cycle on your machine. Make sure water temperatures on the cycle you choose are low. Never above 30°C or 86°F unless you love taking risks. Don´t use detergent unless you absolutely have to. Only use a detergent that is specifically for woolens. Use it very sparingly.

Q: What´s the best way to dry it?

After you take it out of your machine you need to gently pull it into shape. That pretty much goes for all woolens that you wash in your machine. Next step is to lay it flat while it dries. You can gently fold it once or twice, changing the folds maybe two or three times while your wool blanket is drying. It´s imperative that you lay it flat after you´ve tugged it into shape.

Q: Why do I have to lay my woolens flat while they dry?

Picture this. You put your favorite wool sweater in the washing machine. You´ve chosen the right cycle and special detergent for wool. When the machine is done you take your sweater and put it on a hanger. The following day you go and check if it´s already dry. It probably will have dried out and lost its shape. Why? Because you hungt to dry. While the sweater was drying laws of gravity were also at work. You´re sweater wasn´t trying to reach the floor on its own! Hence the rule of always drying your woolens flat!

Make this day a good one!
Cheers from rolla´s design team

P.S. You can of course apply this advice to all your woolens. Just use your good judgement. If in doubt get in touch because we love to hear from you.
